Acid-Base Disorder due to Hypernatremia in Head Injury

Abstract


Head injury potentially endanger the patient. Incident in male is greater than in female. Brain damage that is caused by this incidence include primary and secondary brain damage. Management of head injury in ICU should include prevent another complication such as hypernatremia caused by osmotic over treatment. Hypernatremia could induce metabolic alkalosis and compensatory hypoventilation.
